India is the largest manufacturer of jute and it holds the production of 61 percent of total jute production of the world. Earlier, before independence, India hold the monopoly in producing and exporting jute to different parts of the world but after partition, most of the jute production went in the hands of Pakistan. Now, there are 10 states which are still producing jute in India.

There are many more states too which offers jute cultivation and the ratio is very small for them. Despite of being good with resources too, these states do have a share of 20 hectares of land where the cultivation is marginally less and not static at all.
9. Uttar Pradesh
The state makes a very small contribution in the total cultivation and production of jute. It has a land of .4 hectares where they cultivate 4.5 bales of jute for the exportation.
8. Tripura
The North Eastern states are good for jute cultivation as they have the proper resources for the same purpose. This is the reason that jute cultivation is also possible in Tripura too. It produces 11 bales of jute on the total land of 1.3 hectares.
7. Nagaland
Within small hectares of land for cultivation of jute, Nagaland also offers 40.2 bales on the land of 4.6 hectares.
6. Meghalaya
The state which offers heavy rainfall Meghalaya is also considered good for the jute cultivation too and it offers a production of 86.31 bales on the total land of 12.6 hectares.
5. Odisha
Being the state which is remained underdeveloped till time, Odisha is focusing on the farming and their main occupation is his only. They are also cultivating jute within the area of 22.4 hectares and they are producing 177.7 bales of jute.
4. Andhra Pradesh
In the southern region, Andhra Pradesh is also a state which is producing jute and is having a good cultivation. The state is having a total area of 25 hectares and they are cultivating 225 bales of jute.
3. Assam
There are many cities in the state like Nowgong, Sibsagar, Tezpur, Darrang and Goalpara which are producing jute in Assam. Many countries are getting jute through this way. The total land area Assam has is 70 hectares and they produce 823 bales of jute on this.
2. Bihar
With the districts like Purnea, Darbhanga, Saharsa, and Katihar Bihar is the second largest jute producer in India. It offers a production of 1690 bales on 139.1 hectares of total land.
1. West Bengal
There are many locations in this states which manufacture jute and they are exported to different regions. West Bengal is the largest producer of jute with the total area of 577 hectares and they produce 8349 per bale. (One bale contains maximum of 18 Kg of jute). Areas like Barddhaman, Malda, Murshidabad, 24 Parganas, Medinipur are the regions where jute production is at its maximum.
There is one thing which is also need to be understand that India do not export raw jute to other countries. They import raw jute from Bangladesh and manufacture products of jute in their mills. Based on this, they sell jute products to other countries.
