The Nobel Prize is a set of international awards which is awarded on an annual basis to those who make the highest levels of contribution in the fields of Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace.

1. Rabindranath Tagore
Rabindranath Tagore was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in the year 1913. The Nobel laureate was known for his poems, music, paintings, as well as for the vast work of literature. The rationale behind the Prize was “because of his profound sensitivity, fresh, and beautiful verse, by which, with consummate skill, he has made his poetic thought, expressed in his own English words, a part of the literature of the West.” He was rightly the first Indian to win the award.
2. C.V Raman
He was awarded the Nobel Prize for physics in the year 1930.Also the first Asian scientist to have been awarded the prestigious honor, C.V Raman is known for his massive work in the field of science covering musical instruments, a scattering of light, magnetron, sound, photo electricity, colloidal particles, diffraction, and the Raman effect. He mainly won the Prize for the Raman effect which explains why there is a change of wavelength in the light rays while they deflect from their path.
3. Mother Teresa
Having moved to India at an early age of 19, Mother Teresa dedicated all her remaining life to serve the poor and the society at large. She served the “poorest of the poor” and became a Roman catholic nun. Her work won her the Nobel Prize for peace in the year 1979. She served the sick people and wanted to spread the message that “The poor and the underprivileged people should know that we love them.” She left her home at an early age of 18 to join the community of nuns and since then she treated more than 2 million sick people who led underprivileged lives.
4. Amartya Kumar Sen
He won the Nobel Prize “For his contributions to welfare economics.” In the year 1998. He has conducted a lot of research work in the field of economics and it was his research papers on economics and social justice, welfare economics, and theories of famines which ultimately helped him win the Nobel Prize. Not only that he is also a powerful philosopher to propagate the true ethnicity of Bengal.
5. Kailash Satyarthi
Kailash Satyarthi won the Nobel peace Prize in the year 2014. He won it in collaboration with Malala Yousafzai. He has dedicated his life to the protection of children’s right and education. Besides, he is also battling to get rid of child labor from all the existing corporates. Through his work for the world- renowned institute, UNESCO, Kailash Satyarthi has brought to light the importance of preserving the rights of the children in our society.
6. Abhijit Banerjee
Abhijit Banerjee is a man on a mission. He’s spent his entire career trying to understand and combat poverty on a global scale. Together with his wife and fellow economist Esther Duflo and colleague Michael Kremer, Banerjee has developed an innovative approach to poverty reduction that has changed the way we think about helping the world’s poorest. And in 2019, their efforts were truly recognized when they were awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. But what sets Banerjee and his team apart from others? One word: experimentation.

6. Har Gobind Khurana
Born in Raipur, British India Har Gobind Khurana is a citizen of the United States of America. He won the Nobel Prize for medicine in the year 1968. He is known for his work in physiology which involved interpretation of the code present in the genes of the different living beings and the same can be utilized for protein synthesis. He won the award a long side Marshall W. Nirenberg and Robert W. Holley who worked together to prove that it was the nucleotides which are responsible for the process of protein synthesis.
7. Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar
An Indian residing in the United States of America, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar won the Nobel Prize for physics in the year 1983. He is also the nephew of the Nobel laureate C.V Raman. He played a crucial role in explaining to the world more about the evolution of the stars. His main work which won him the prestigious award was defining the Chandrasekhar limit which decided the limit of the “white dwarf’s mass.”
8. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan
The Indian origin chemist currently is a resident of both the United Kingdom as well as the United states of America. He won the Nobel Prizein Chemistry in the year 2009 for contributing towards the study as well as the structure of ribosomes. He shared the Prize with Thomas A. Steitz and Ada E. Yonath.

He was the son of Hindu Indians who had immigrated to Trinidad. it is this Indian connection that wins him a place in this list. He won the Nobel Prize for literature in the year 2001. He is a citizen of the United Kingdom and has won the prestigious award for his immense and thought-provoking work in the field of literature.
