You must be having a PAN Card which is required to open the bank account and which is also required to make transactions. You can’t buy gold or gold ornaments without a PAN Card if you exceed a certain limit. That is right, this rule was created by the government recently. A lot of people are not aware of this fact but do you know that there is an address associated with the PAN Card?
Well, an address is not listed on the PAN Card but on the database, there is an Address which is associated with the PAN Card. In most of the conditions, Assessing Officer is assigned to you on basis of the geographical address. Also, it should be noted that if you move home, then you should update your address and you should also follow the process to update your A.O. In this article, we have listed the process to update the Address on PAN Card and below is the process.
Steps to Change / Update Address in Your PAN Card
To change the address on PAN Card, you would need to fill the online version of Form 49 A if your nationality is Indian and Form 49 AA if your nationality is not India or if you are an NRI. Here is how you can do that.
=> In your browser, open https://www.tin-nsdl.com/ as this is the website which enables you to submit the forms and applications related to the PAN Card.
=> On this, Click on Services and then Click on PAN from the top menu. You will now be redirected to a new page wherein you will be asked about the application or the procedure that you need.
=> Scroll Down on the page and come to the section which has a header Change/Correction in PAN Data. Under this heading, Click on Apply Button. You will now be taken on Online PAN Application page.
=> From the application type, select Changes or Correction in Existing PAN Data and then also select the category as per your requirements. Enter rest of the details on the page and click on the continue button. A token number will be issued to you and you can note that down somewhere.
=> Click on Continue with PAN Application Form and on the next page, read the guidelines. You can select the procedure that you want to follow and we would suggest you to follow Submit Digitally Through e-KYC and e-Sign (Paperless) Procedure. Scroll down on the page and click on Continue Button
=> Once you are on the tab for Contact and Other Details, Scroll down and tick the checkbox which is meant for updating the address. You will now be able to enter the address on your PAN Card
=> Move to the next page and enter your Aadhaar number, you will be asked to validate the Aadhaar number. Aadhaar card works as an address proof as well. Once the validation is done, an acknowledgement form will be generated after the payment of the fee.
=> Take the printout of the acknowledgement form and also attach the copy of the address proof if you were not able to validate the details with the Aadhaar card. It should be noted that the address on the Aadhaar card should be same as of the address that you need to update on the PAN.
=> Once that is done, simply send the acknowledgement slip to the department on the address which is listed below in the application. The address will be updated within 2 weeks and it should be noted that no new PAN Card will be issued in case of an address If you wish to update other details then the address will be updated.
This is how you can update the address. Once the address is updated, you can then visit the local PAN office and submit an application to update your Assessing Officer details. You need to submit an application for the same and post submission of application, your A.O. will be updated as per your present geographical area.
