Chitrangada Singh was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan and hails from a Jat family. She was raised in Meerut and comes from an influential family, with her brother, Digvijay Singh, being a famous golf player. As a youngster, she was often compared to Smita Patil as she bore a striking resemblance to this great actress, and later she Chitrangada proved that she was talented like the late actress too. She did her graduation in Home Science from the prestigious Lady Irwin College in New Delhi, after which she started her career as a model. Chitrangada was interested in acting from the very beginning and got formally trained in Kathak. She got married to Jyoti Randhawa, who ranks among the top 100 golfers in the world, but the coupled split up in 2014 and the custody of their only son was granted to Chitrangada. After completing her graduate degree in Delhi, Chitrangada Singh entered the glamour world by doing ad assignments for ICICI Banka and Alukkas Jewelry. She then appeared in some music videos, including “Sunset Point” by Gulzar and another one by the singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya. Chitrangada was then noticed by film maker Sudhir Mishra, who offered her a role in “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi”. The film released in 2003 and got rave reviews for Chitrangada , establishing her as a serious actress in the industry. Next came, the 2005 film called “Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow”, followed by a hot item number in Shirish Kunder’s “Joker”. She took an extended break from the industry from 2005 to 2008, and made a comeback with the 2008 project “Sorry Bhai!”, which bombed at the box office.
