There are many fictitious characters in Disney’s Aladdin franchise. Aladdin, the franchise’s main character, was formerly a street child. He moves into the Agrabah palace throughout the franchise and gets engaged to Princess Jasmine.
Aladdin Cartoon Main Characters
1. Aladdin
After encountering Jasmine on the streets and being chosen by Jafar to recover the magical light from the Cave of Wonders, Aladdin, a street urchin, becomes the prince of Agrabah.
2. Princess Jasmine
The rebellious princess of Agrabah, Jasmine (voiced by Linda Larkin, singing voice Lea Salonga, played by Naomi Scott in the live-action picture), escapes the palace to avoid having to marry a prince. She encounters Aladdin in the streets while running, and she later aids him in taking down Jafar.
3. Genie
Genie lacks a given name and is referred to as a jinn. Dan Castellaneta voiced the Genie in The Return of Jafar as well as the television series after Williams along with the Walt Disney Company couldn’t agree on a contract. Williams then returned to the role for the last film Aladdin and the King of Thieves along with the character’s own miniseries, Great Minds Think for Themselves. Following Williams’s passing in 2014, Jim Meskimen assumed the role and voiced him in Disney Think Fast (2008) and Kinect: Disneyland Adventures (2011). The Genie appears in the 2019 movie in both his human disguise and his customary blue appearance. He does develop feelings for Dalia.
4. Jafar
Jafar was portrayed as the Sultan’s most dependable and obedient councilman in his capacity as Royal Vizier of Agrabah. Imperious, Jafar harboured deep contempt for the Sultan and devoted the second part of his life to obtaining a magic lamp which contained an all-powerful genie. With this ability, he would be able to control cosmic energy, which he would then utilize to conquer both the Sultanate and the entire world.
5. Iago
Iago is Jafar’s pet and sidekick, and after a reformation, Aladdin. He emerges as a rather irascible counterpart to Aladdin’s monkey, Abu, and is humorous and sardonic. Iago is a common adversary in the Sega video game Disney’s Aladdin. He is typically seen flying at a great height, although he may be quickly defeated and de-feathered with a single strike from a sabre or an apple thrown.
6. Abu
Abu is the kleptomaniacal, high-pitched pet monkey owned by Aladdin. He is a voice of opposition in Aladdin: The Series anytime he is forced to participate in one of Iago’s naive plots, even though over the series they transform from bitter rivals to close allies. To mimic Abu’s movements, the animators watched monkeys at the San Francisco Zoo on video. The character depends on the similarly called Abu the Thief, who appeared in The Thief of Bagdad in 1940 and was portrayed by Sabu Dastagir.
7. Magic Carpet
Aladdin discovered the Magic Carpet, an old carpet, in the treasure area of the Cave of Wonders. It is a voiceless character who only communicates using pantomime and body language. Although it is genderless, because Arabic uses masculine pronouns by default, ‘him’ is referred to by male pronouns.
8. The Sultan
The haughty yet benevolent Sultan is the father of Princess Jasmine and the king of Agrabah. The Wizard of Oz served as inspiration for some of the character’s traits, such as his bumbling authority figure persona.
All in all, the show is fun and touching to watch.
