Sabyasachi Mukherjee was born in Kolkata and hails from a middle class family. His mother loved handicrafts and worked at the Government Art College, while the family went into trouble when his father lost his job at the time when Sabyasachi was just 15 years old. Though he is one of the leading fashion designers of the country today, it is surprising to learn that his parents did not even pay for his admission fee at NIFT. The reason was that they wanted him to go in engineering field, but Sabyasachi was bent at becoming a designer and sold his books to get admission to the institute and the rest is history. He completed his graduation from NIFT with three awards and opened his workshop as a designer.
